Out of the Margins began in 2020 with the intention of providing training and technical assistance to
emerging leaders- particularly those who are disabled and/or racially marginalized- in the nonprofit
sector. However, we recognize that such an initiative does nothing to address the systemic gaps that
have made the nonprofit sector, including, ironically enough, organizations that advocate for disabled people, hostile to Black and Brown people in the first place. In response to that unfortunate reality, Out of the Margins is evolving into a platform for unflinching content that centers the disabled lives of Black
and Brown people. We are recreating this space in the interest of proactively addressing the crisis of systemic racism that exists on every level in society, a crisis that the nonprofit sector refuses to address in any meaningful way; our focus is discussed further in the "About" section of this website.
